Autoimmune and Allergies
Allergies and autoimmune diseases occur when the immune system attacks the body, which ends up concentrating all of its energy on fighting often harmless threats and gives rise to responses such as skin rashes, inflammation, generalized or localized inflammation in joints or organs.
However, allergies and autoimmune diseases are different. Sometimes, the body interprets the signals as if it were an allergenic process when in reality it is not. Allergies respond to external factors like dust or pollen that the immune system sees as threats. Autoimmune conditions respond to internal situations that trigger the action of the immune system: which it confuses with a threat, even when they are essential functions for the normal functioning of the body.
In an autoimmune response, tissue destruction can occur. With allergies, the immune system overreacts to harmless allergens.
